Artist Bio

Do you have a website or blog with examples of your work?

I have a Flickr account. However, I don’t think this really does justice to the work or what I am trying to do with it so haven’t updated for a while. Most of my pictures run in series and are intended for large prints hung in the right order or place so Flickr isn’t much good for that.. I have a MySpace under my own name which shows art from the homeless community in Cambridge.

Who's influenced your work?

Richard Long, Bill Drummond, Bill Burroughs, Emila Medková, Man Ray, Lee Miller, British Surrealism, Mess Hall Chicago.

Who or what most inspires you?

Fear of boredom.

Are you working on any projects or pieces at the moment?

I am currently working on a project called "Heroes ",with national artist Linton Baldock and a group of homeless adults in Cambridge making large sculptures of personal heroes. My personal work is centred around collage and black and white photography. Recently though, I have been producing posters and spoof adverts with an anti-political message. I am constantly searching for images, with no real objective, if I knew where I was going I’d probably change my mind, so I archive work and ideas for future reference: most works end up having babies.

What projects have you worked on or helped with in the past?

I have two works on public display at present: a sculpture at the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge and a collage at Anglia Ruskin in Chelmsford. I worked as an artist’s assistant with the ‘Danger Museum’ collective at the Wysing Arts Centre on Mill Road in 2008 and as an invigilator for their other exhibitions at that site. I have worked on various projects with the homeless community, doing art sessions and producing artwork for CD covers of homeless musicians. I have also designed and printed t-shirts and posters for various creative-based groups for homeless service users.

Can you tell us about your previous shows?

I have only really participated in small local shows. Exhibitions are not my main goal when it comes to art, although I do have a large archive of work which could be exhibited if I have the opportunity and a little spare cash for production costs.

Have you done any training in the past and do you plan to do any in the future?

I have a Fine Art degree but don’t plan on anything else.

Have you done any community work?

Yes, I work with the homeless and it is my aim to try and get people opportunities to do things creative, for the reasons of sanity.

Have you ever taught any art classes?

I don’t ‘teach’ as such but have run art groups at a local homeless hostel. I’d rather call it 'encouragement and support' rather than 'teaching'.

How would you describe your work?

A personal life-saving technique.
