Hi, I’m Meg; a mother, a singer in two bands, a voice-coach, and a freelance artist & trainer. I joined Positiveworld Studios last November, and already find the space a blessing.
I set up Left Handed Meg in summer ’09, with the help of NWES on the New Deal scheme. Initially I set out to focus purely on children's murals and portraits. It has since expanded to take in a variety of other commissions, including personalised wedding stationary, site-specific paintings/collage, and even tattoo-designs.
Combining my creative passion with an opportunity to help others is a marriage made in heaven for me. I have experience in working with children, vulnerable teenagers, and adults with a range of disabilities. Many of these opportunities have been through the charity Inspire~ Wellbeing through the Arts. An increasing amount of my time is now spent training and being involved in community projects and workshops. Later in the year, I hope to explore the opportunities to run creative classes from Positiveworld Studios.
Last year, I co-ran two sets of 20 week workshops for people with learning difficulties in Norfolk. These used creative arts to explore the issues of self-esteem and self-expression. The basis for this work is inspired by The Power of Self-Esteem; a course I have qualified to teach through the More to Life self-development organisation.
Developing a sense of self-worth is a strong element to the voice-couching I also regularly do with a couple of young people. In all my artistic practises, I try to keep in mind the words from Marianne Williamson’s poem, A Return to Love… “ as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”
Please do check out my work and get in touch!
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
